Prepare to be blown out of the water.
When Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), an eccentric rogue, arrives at Port Royal, he barely avoids going down with his ship. Soon enough, he's in the market for a new one, but not before he saves the life of Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), the beautiful daughter of the governor (Jonathan Pryce). This act of bravery sets into motion a sweeping adventure involving Elizabeth's childhood friend, blacksmith Will Turner (Orlando Bloom); a mysterious medallion; and a legendary pirate ship, the Black Pearl. The Pearl's mottled Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) wants Elizabeth's doubloon necklace, and when she's kidnapped by the ol' salty dog and his crew, Sparrow and young Will must rescue her and find out the truth behind the ship's curse. |

Like most of those huge productions, it is not the director who decides to do the movie, but the producer who chooses the director. In that case Jerry Bruckheimer (Armageddon, Pearl Harbor) opt for Gore Verbinski whose last film was The Ring. One part of the movie was shoot in studios and to make all the tropical scenes more realistic, the crew went to Caribbean and scours the islands looking for the most beautiful spot. Finally concerning the ships, two of them were built specially for the occasion and for the third one the production used an existing ship: the Lady Washington with all its crew. |

 Entertaining ! |
| We could reproach this film to be pure entertainment and nothing else; but is it not what we're looking for when we go see that kind of movie? In consequence, one must not expect a script of steel, ingenious and full of subtleties but good special effects, a hint of humor, and action; in brief all the elements to make it spectacular. Like often Johnny Depp is excellent and interprets perfectly this great and mysterious captain, Goeffrey Rush (Shine) is also pretty good in his role. Only Keira Knightley (the governor beautiful daughter in the film) has a serious lack of credibility. At the end, the entertainment is there because of sustained rhythm of the story, the great actions scenes and the very well directed special effects. |

The Big Return of Pirate Movies… |
| All those of you who like Pirate movies should be happy, their latest offspring is out! The Scenario is a part-action, part-adventure, part-romance, part-horror story… As for the actors, nobody shall miss to notice the impressive competences of Johnny Depp as an actor. This time he’s interpreting a semi-comic, semi-serious character, the intriguing Captain Sparrow. As for, as the girls would tell you, the beautiful Orlando Bloom, it seems that being a good actor won’t change that his predilection is for calm and mysterious roles, like “Legolas” that he played in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Keira Knightley will probably not be remembered for her performance as Elizabeth Swann, the Governors daughter. As for Jonathan Pryce (Brazil, Tomorrow Never Dies, Evita, Ronin) he leaves his personal touch in this interpretation of Governor Swann, you’ll easily recognize his nice style. Last but not least, Barbossa, the traitor, is played by the great actor Geoffrey Rush (The Banger Sisters, Frida, The Taylor Of Panama, Shine), who merits to be more renown because of the quality of his interpretations. And of course to be mentioned are the special effects that are so well made that they are almost reality. |

 Visually excellent |
| The great play of Johnny Depp and the beauty of the settings are doing from Pirates of the Caribbean a very good film. The technical effects, as in the marine domain (the Black Pearl is splendid !) as in the computing animation of the living-dead (at one time human, at another time skeletons, according to the moon light), are very impressive. In a parallel direction with this, Orlando Bloom, whose Legolas’ part is not prejudicial, become swordsman master confronting Depp, then helping him, in big swords’ fights as we like. In short, a very amusing film, visually excellent and sometimes also: funny. |
