 Bloody and scary |
Even though the beginning of the movie is very common and slow – kind of boring, I would say –, the script is getting better as the story goes on. Nevertheless, this film is a weird patchwork of diverse influences, starting with Evil Dead or Cabin Fever for the old makeshift shanty lost in the forest which is occupied by the actors at the beginning, continuing with The Lord of the Rings and its character Gollum for the livid foaming aggressive creatures of the cave and ending with John Carpenter’s The Thing and its disquieting single-stringed theme for the musical aspect.
The Descent combines well both psychological and visual horror, generating claustrophobia from the tightness of the cave as well as repulsion from the bloodiness of the underground struggles involving Gollum’s cousins…
In brief, I would say that this movie is enjoyable, much better than a lot of other horror movies I saw in theaters recently. So, if you like blood, The Descent is made for you!

 Unexpected horror movie! |
I did not expect what I saw in this movie... I came to see a bad adventure movie tincted with a little bit of blood and eventually a bit of suspens (but of course I hadn't read the synopsis) and what I got was...wow how fun! I really did enjoy discovering all the gory effects and of course the unforgettable pool of blood!!! I'd say it's rather a horror movie than an adventure movie... Anyway, the story is all fun, the directing is fair and the actresses are all okay. Although some cheesiness is present but that's because its a horror movie, so it's fine!
Anyway I had brought a friend telling him that this movie wouldn't contain much blood... how wrong I turned out to be! hehehe I had a big laugh seeing his face contorted... |
